This week is a busy one for the team here at NRT because it brings with it two of the biggest dates in the Newmarket thoroughbred calendar: The Tattersalls July Sale and the Newmarket Racecourses July Festival!
Tattersalls July Sale
The Tattersalls July Sale is considered Europe’s premier summer sale and runs from 12th-14th July. This year’s sale comprises 810 lots, an increase on 2016’s total of 873 and with consignments from the likes of Cheveley Park Stud, Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Estates, it promises to be of the highest quality.
Lots include broodmares in foal to the likes of Dutch Art, Dawn Approach, Lethal Force and Toronado to name just a few.
NRT Horse Transport will be ensuring the safe transportation of many thoroughbreds over the course of the three-day sale.
The July Festival
The July Festival is one of the most highly-anticipated race meetings on the Newmarket Racecourse calendar. The three-day festival is a celebration of style, colour and of course, thrilling racing and takes place from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th July.
Day one is Ladies Day and features the historic Newmarket Town Plate. This amateur race is considered one of the oldest races under rules in history. It has been run on the same course for over three centuries and this year is no different! Ladies Day will also see the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes.
Gentleman’s Day takes place on Friday and brings with it the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes which will pit some of flat racing’s greatest jockeys and trainers against each other in a thrilling battle.
The final day of the festival is July Cup Day and, as the name suggests, it is all about The July Cup race. This Group 1 race is one of the most valuable and prestigious sprint races in the world with a purse of £500,000 in 2016 and is part of the Global Sprint Challenge.
